About

I don’t arrange people. I wait for them.

My name is Marta Zielińska. I started out in press photography and it never quite left me — I still like the half-second when nobody remembers there’s someone standing there with a camera.

At a wedding I’m there from morning until the last dance, but in the background. Twice I’ll ask everyone to gather for family portraits; the rest of the day I simply photograph what happens. Portrait sessions work the same way: we start with coffee and a conversation, and somewhere in the middle the pictures start making themselves.

I work in warm, muted colour and a good deal of black and white. No filters left over from 2014, no faces smoothed into plastic.
